Day 35 - Cleaning

Today, I felt terrible when I got up. My cold is fighting the antibiotics and the result isn't pretty. I called in sick and got back into bed and slept until noon. Needless to say, I feel much, much better this evening. I'm thinking that the sleep plus the medications are finally helping. Hopefully I'll be better by this weekend. I don't want to be sniffling for my interview.

Today, after I woke up for the second time, I cleaned house. I sorted through things, packed some to be sold at my yard sale and threw others away. I feel like I accomplished quite a bit, my bookshelf is no longer overflowing onto the floor, and actually looks pretty nice. Books are only double stacked on two shelves, and those are all my mass market paperbacks (mostly romance novels), so that's not too bad. I still have to find a spot for my audio books, but overall, I'm quite proud that all of my books fit. I'm definitely not going to get any more until my bookshelves are no longer double stacked, and I've read every book on my shelf. Who knows, I may get desperate for reading material and actually read Les Miserables (I know it's a classic, but wow is it daunting, even for an avid reader such as myself).

In addition to cleaning off my bookshelf, I got my curtains back up. I vacuumed the cobwebs out of the corners before I put them back up, but I didn't bother washing the windows. I'll do that when I'm ready to move, it isn't like I ever look out of those windows (they're old, leaded glass, so I really can't tell when they're clean, they stay milky and wavy all the time). I also got my vacuum sweeper bags changed, and made sure they were put on right this time. The last time they got changed, apparently the seal wasn't on good so everything I vacuumed up wound up in the sweeper bag compartment, not in the bag (something I didn't discover until I went to change the bag...). That's why I am immensely happy I have two vacuum sweepers, I just used the other one to clean it out. I really need to store my spare sweeper in the shed, though, as it takes up quite a bit of room that I don't really have. The house is starting to look decent, but I still have a lot of work to do tonight and tomorrow.

Hopefully when I get this all done it will be easier to keep clean, and since I'm not shopping I won't have anything new to find a place for. I'm already discovering that what I do buy gets used up fast, since I don't have stockpiles of so much stuff. One thing that I did tonight, which I need to keep up, is sorting all of my "important paperwork." I had just been tossing all of this into a container, but I put it into a binder instead. I separated it all into about 10 categories and used protector sleeves to organize the binder. That way I don't have to take the time to hole punch everything, I can simply stick the paperwork into the appropriate sleeve to be dealt with later. It certainly looks more organized than the box sitting on my desk did, so that's a start.
