Day 41 - Bought a Domain

I spent $60 today. I really didn't need to, but I'm hoping it will pay off in the long run. I bought a domain and a year of web hosting from Go Daddy. I'm pretty darn hopeless with the Internet, so I'm hoping to convince our Web Design class to create a really, really simple website for me. Maybe I can cheaply hire one of the students... What prompted me to buy a domain, you ask? I received an e-mail today from someone who wants to advertise on my blog. I thought about it, and decided that should I decide to advertise on my blog, I should probably go ahead and develop a full website, so that it will be easier to add content. Also, that way I can move things around easier (in theory), and I have a bit more security. I don't want to violate any terms of use or anything like that. Also, I can use the 1 GB of web hosting to upload some of my course documents, and create a website for my class. I love blog spot, but I'm afraid that when the link for my blog goes on the Fox website that will be too much traffic for this site. What do you all think? Did I make a good decision?

I registered my domain for two years and got a year of web hosting. The new website will be www.yearoffrugality.com It doesn't look like it now, but it is mine, all mine. Hopefully I'll have some content on there this weekend, but don't hold your breath. I'm going to transfer all of my posts, so they will still be available, and will be posting on here until I get things running 98% smoothly over there (let's face it, I'm always going to have computer issues). Other than that, I didn't spend anything...but that's enough money for one day. I guess I could see this as an investment in my future...just in case I decide to turn this into a book, I'll have my domain already registered.

I'm not sure why, but this week has really seemed quite long. Tomorrow is only a half day and I had the day off yesterday (I just love driving for two hours each way only to see the doctor for 10 minutes, don't you), but I'm just ready for the long weekend. I'm going to do some laundry, cook up some more frozen dinners, as I'm getting tired of spaghetti, fill out applications, read research papers, and try my hand at web design. Hum...where did my weekend go? At least my list doesn't include shopping, right?

I've done fairly well in the last month and a half, and I get paid next week, so that's always good. This will be one of the first times since I started drawing a paycheck that I'm not hurting for money the week before payday. I have to say, it is amazing how much less stress being able to buy gas without worrying how you are going to pay for it is compared to the alternative. Who knows, perhaps in a month or two I'll be able to set up a savings account. I haven't had one of those since high school, when I got wages for working on the farm but still had my parents paying for all the necessities of life. Who knows, maybe I'll start saving for a newer car, or for a down payment on a house. Though I am nowhere close to being financially secure, just having money in the bank makes me feel very, very satisfied.
